This week we had a variety of things happening! We have been learning how to tally. Students are learning to ask a question to others with 2 choices. Some are "yes" or "no" answers while others are as simple as "Do you like cats or dogs?"
Once they have a question; they walk around asking students and begin their tallies. One to four are straight lines down with a "magic five" across like a belt.
They then try to count up the tally.
After counting the tally, as a group we create a graph to show our data.
On Tuesday students predicted whether the groundhog would see it's shadow or not.
Students did several activities and heard stories about Groundhog Day Traditions.
Fun ways to practice one to one correspondence...
By touching each item as you say each number, helps to make sure you don't miss any.
Some students this week also created some cool structures and vehicles that actually spin, move and transform!
Then on Thursday we had an awesome presentation about Dairy Farming. Mrs. Heeg joined us for a presentation from the Dairy Farmers of Ontario that was engaging and full of interactive fun! Ask your child what they remember from the presentation, or what their favourite part was!!
She showed us pictures of robot milking machines...
...told us that a black and white cow is called a Holstein and it can produce 30 litres of milk in a day.
Before a cow can be milked it needs to have its teats dipped to clean, be scrubbed and then the milker can be attached.
We learned that cows are mammals and all female mammals can produce milk.
Cows have to have 3 things before they can produce milk.
Ask your child what those 3 things are!
Don't forget all the fun stuff going on next week!
