Welcome to the Anna Melick Kindergarten Blog 2015-2016!

Join us each week to see what we've been learning!

We'll start by showing a few things we did in the fall...

In September we learned a lot about apples.
Below students helped peel and core apples from a back yard orchard tree.

Some were rotton inside- Yuck, but...

...we have worms!!

Add some cinnamon and sugar and we made apple sauce, mmmm yummy!!

Then we washed more apples and Mrs. Nash let us use her juicer to make some apple cider.

We dumped the pulp into a big bin and took a look!

There was a LOT to see in there, stems, peels, seeds, and lots of mushy stuff but it all smelled like apples!

In November we sang a song for Remembrance Day and Miss Donaldson brought in some of her grandfather's medals for us to see.

We made our own bravery medals to wear to the assembly.

 Kites!
We asked students: How do we know there is wind?
They came up with some great ideas!
We took bubbles outside one day and noticed they move the way the wind blows, and that the wind can change direction often!!

We decided to get some materials out and see what kind of kites we could make.
After looking at many different kites we learned they can be many different shapes and sizes. We then watched a short clip on 'how to make a simple kite' and this design below is what they came up with.
We used streamers and yarn as string and students got to work.
Some made the one we saw in the video while others had their own designs.

Then we took them outside and they ALL flew!!

Near the end of November we began making Gingerbread!

We made gingerbread students,...

... a gingerbread kitchen,...

...an elf workshop,...

...and a Gingerbread House that everyone helped make!
Way to go team!!

Then of course we had to make gingerbread salt dough ornaments,...

Then we HAD to make Gingerbread too!
We rolled the dough and cut the cookies then put them in the oven to bake.
When we came in from recess to get them...

...just like in all the Gingerbread stories we read, they were gone?!?

We followed the clues all over the school until we found them back in our classroom with a fun note!

So, we did!

And they were YUMMY!!
